The Campagnolo Eurus Road Wheelset is designed to be extremely versatile. Light on climbs and quick to respond to changes of pace, it is designed to be both extremely durable and deliver high performance. Thanks to the oversized flange and innovative Mega-G3 technology, Eurus wheels have made a true leap to become, alongside the Shamel Ultra, a reference point for top-end aluminium wheels. These high-end wheelsets represent a big step ahead in terms of performance and reactivity.

To optimise the key features of a road bike wheelset, such as weight, aerodynamic and stiffness, engineers at Campy Tech Lab are always working hard implementing new technologies. One of the new results of these efforts is the Mega G3™ Geometry, the further development of the G3™ Geometry, which optimises the spoke tension and delivers a long-lasting performance. Furthermore, Shamal™Ultra™ wheelsets mount a new oversize drive side flange on the rear wheel that is now bigger and allows to increase dramatically the responsiveness of the wheels and the overall performance of the bicycle.

Campagnolo Eurus Review:

Riding Impressions of the Campagnolo Eurus Wheelset

The Eurus wheelset is designed for the race bike rider who wants more performance, more aero and greater comfort without giving up that out-of-the-saddle performance many of us demand.

Climbing:

The Campagnolo Eurus is a very responsive wheel on climbs. I do experience a bit of flex when climbing out of the saddle, but the cushioning is there when you need it. When sitting and spinning, it’s smooth and fast. These are not wheels I would recommend for high-speed, sustained climbing. These are best for the rider who spends most of their time in the saddle of a climb, hence they are a great match for the compact or shorter riders.

Racing:

When the road kicks up and I need to move, these wheels react quickly. They also hold speed fairly well when I’m descending, and do not make me feel like I’ve lost much speed on the flats when the road levels out.

Descending:

The Campagnolo Eurus is a very predictable and confident wheel set, as well. When I look for it, it’s there, waiting for me to lean and release. When I’m in the drops and descending, holding speed, it feels smooth. In these situations, it takes me back to the time I had 21mm Rolf wheels on my Titus Racer!

Flat Roads:

These wheels seem to be a bit slower on flat roads than I would have thought. After riding them for a bit, I thought they seemed faster. It’s most likely my brain thinking that the cushioning on the climbs was a speed improvement when really it was all in my head! They don’t feel slow, especially when accelerating. But, I can’t describe them as quick on the flats.

All in all, the Campagnolo Eurus wheelset is an excellent option on a bike that you want to be lightweight and fluid. If you are…the Eurus will deliver.

Technical Details

As mentioned above, the Campagnolo Eurus is an optimized road wheelset for riders who prefer a more comfortable and smooth pedal-stroke. Thanks to Shamal Ultra™ technology, the Eurus wheelset benefits from an oversize front dimension that maximizes the torsional stiffness. The rear hub is equipped with a new oversize drive side flange, which improves the wheel’s responsiveness and overall performance of the bicycle.

The Eurus is the flagship wheelset from Campy Tech Lab in their line of optimised road wheels. The Eurus is designed to use Zonda hubs with their G3 geometry – which optimises spoke tension and provides long-lasting performance.

The Eurus features an oversized drive side flange, as well as a descending flange on the rear hub. The flanges are design to increase performance and are optimised to balance stiffness and reactivity. The front flange is 3.5mm wider and 10% longer than the Shamal’s 24mm flange. The rear descending flange is 22mm wide, and roughly twice as thick as the standard part. The increasing width and thickness creates a greater stiffness in the later part of the wheels’ rotation. Overall, the Eurus wheelset has slightly more of a sense of acceleration in the drive train and a touch more flex taking the edge off of the ride.

The Campagnolo Eurus wheelset weighs in at 1400g for the set (898g rear, 518g front), which is pretty respectable for the price.

Whereas the Shamal Ultra wheelset was a bit of an overachiever on the climbs, the Eurus is a bit more rounded. It’s not a stiff climbing wheel, and it’s not a super soft rolling wheel. If you’re looking to get a bit more snap and reactivity out of a lightweight wheel like the Zonda, the Shamal Ultra might be a better choice. If you are looking for a more comfortable road wheelset, the Eurus might be the better option.

Finally, the Campagnolo Eurus is available in two colors (Black and White), and eight available hub configurations.

Overall Review

Overall, these are some terrific looking wheels, that are equally fun to ride. They aren’t perfect, but what Campy product is? There are certain design elements that could use some refining, namely the braze-on spokes. Also, the centerlock-bead is something that really disappoints me, because it limits your wheel compatibility. But, if you are buying Campy, you probably are not too concerned about that issue.

All in all, the Campagnolo Eurus is a terrific wheelset, and it’s a shame it is not branded as Fulcrum or Zipp. I hope Campy goes that route in the future. Especially if they make it carbon.
