Vision Team 30 Review:
Vision Team 30 paired with Chris King R45 45mm External Cup and Cane Creek 1-1/8″ Threadless Deraillieurs, Chris King Headset, Praxis Works BB:
My first race on the Team 30 was the East Coast Super Series – Better Late Than Never Edition at the end of May. The race was flat and fast. I did not reach my goal of an under 24-minute 5 mile TT, but I did close in on a PR. This little change in goal would keep me from pushing too hard in training before the race. With a solid TT effort, I could manage a good start to get into a comfortable position for a good run. My race started well. I bridged the gap to the leaders then settled in comfortably in the front of the pack with two other riders. I lapped the trade team who had come for a good workout. The leaders launched the first attack. We let them open up a small gap and hit the chase. I led the chasers down to the front of the field where we began to brake for the first corner. The race was just beginning. I took no chances in the corners. I was tucked in nice and close. As the race progressed, the front pack began to spread out across the road. We raced with two groups of three, three grouping would win. As the third group pulled away, one of the riders launched a solo attack. I chased until I was unable to hold his wheel. I chased by myself until it was clear he had some space. With a quick, internal talk, I slowed and settled in for a good run. I cruised across the line in the front group, comfortably off the back of the solo escapee. I had done all that I could.
3 months later, I found myself in Rochester, NY at the Dale Warland 15 mile TT. This was a good test of the Team 30 because it was almost entirely flat. My race went well. I was within striking distance of my goal when I finished. My goal for the night was to beat my last 15 mile 15:07. This time I tucked in behind a rider who pulled me along with him in his draft. He flew through the first half of the course, as we dropped a rider from our small chase. At the split we were close to the lead, I was still feeling good, and I was ready to increase my pace. As we cleared the lead rider, I pushed on my own to increase the gap. I began to struggle a little on the smaller rollers, I really wanted to hold my pace. Eventually, I was unable to hold the gap, and I began to settle in for a solid run. I crossed the line in 15:06.
I have had the Team 30 on all of my training rides since the season began. Through the ups and downs on my power meter, it has been a stable wheel. I plan on running these wheels for the remainder of the season. They have been solid, they are fast. There is little to complain about with the Team 30 Wheelset.
Now I am Super Excited to Give You My Review of the New Bontrager Aeolus 5 D3 Disc Wheel Set, I Have Been Testing Now for the Past 30 Days in Variety of Surfaces
They are Without a Doubt my Favorite Wheel Set for the Longest Trips with the Most Chaotic Trails, I Have taken Them Offroad on Loose Gravel/Athletic Track/Sand/Fast Pavement/Loose Rock and they maintained Their Speed and Handling Properties
The New Disc Brakes are So far my Favorite for Braking in All Conditions.
They are Absolutely Amazing, I rode the Toussaint Road Race -And I have to say there is Nothing that comes Close to the Aeolus 5 D3 Disc
I was Very Impressed with the Stiffness and Resistance to Flat Spotting
I have to Try the Bontrager Carbon Wheel Set Now, test it against the Campagnolo Record Disc, my All-Time Favorite
Next Up will be My 2nd Ride along Napo River in Ecuador -Oldest Wild West Town in Ecuador- This is Always a Fun Ride to do Because It’s So Beautiful Down There, and it’s a Beautiful Ride
Longest I have Ever Done -90 Miles over 1 ½ Days and It was Hard, but This Time I am Trying to Beat the “II Tapia” Which is a 100 Miles over 2 Days and It Will Be Much Harder because the First 60-70 Miles Down There Will be the Hardest Part, So, My Goals are focused on Breaking the Oldest and Longest Record
Okay, so I rode the new Astellas Settlers Ridge Loop, I was going to do the Settlers Loop But I got a Really Good Spot at the Start of the New Loop which is 5 Miles
A Lot of Really Good Climbs in the loop and the Worst is The Rock Staircase, I Had No Idea this Was Going to be So Hard, but I was Super Happy when I crossed the Finish Loop because I Knew I wasn’t going to Be able to Recover without a Good Nap
The 13th Annual Settlers Ridge Halloween Road Race was awesome, as always, there was an Epic Finish up to the last 200 yards
I really enjoyed my ride at the Settlers Ridge Half Marathon, Could Have Been a Great Race if It wasn’t for the Crappy Weather 20 Miles into the Ride.
