Continental Travel Contact Review:

After just one ride on the Continental Travel Contact not only will you fall in love with the bike but this is one of the best tyres you will ever ride. While my fellow riding buddies were sinking to the floor with their puny hard cases this treaded beast made the punishment seem like a pleasure.

You can easily start to tell the difference between this and other tyres from the get go. While it may look like it has a high thread count the rubber compound is very much in favour of an endurance rider. This tyre is designed to roll with minimal vibrations, bumps and knocks.

Once out onto the open road this tyre has just enough movement for your bike to enjoy the beautiful scenery, vehicle and weather. This tyre will adjust to even the roughest of surfaces allowing you to ride over the surface without experiencing too much force or discomfort. The tyre offers a smooth fast ride over most surfaces.

I also took my new Continental Travel Contact through my local bike shop for some quick adjustments. Adjusting the cleat tensions and angles made a significant difference to my riding. In fact I noticed that the treads are the perfect platform for cycling at speed with great grip.

I did notice however that as I am a heavier rider I had to be very easy on the acceleration and lean angles. This is probably due to the rigid platform of the tyre that is set up for a more lightweight rider. But other than that I can say for the average rider this ride will feel as if it were made just for you.

For the new rider it is not always easy to choose which type of riding tyre to buy. There are many varieties to choose from at present and this one just might be for you if you want a long distance touring tyre that rolls nice and easy. I definitely recommend the Continental Travel Contact!!

Continental Travel Contact Stong Points:

  • Gives an amazingly smooth ride. Easy rolling.
  • Wears down very slowly.
  • Rubber compound gives a good traction and grip on most surfaces.
  • Has a good puncture resistence.
  • Only takes few seconds to fit.

Cons:

  • Not too good on a hard surface but this will depend on your bike set up.
  • Don’t expect it to work well on a lighter bike.

When To Use The Continental Travel Contact

The continental travel contact is ideal for riding on a smooth road or bumpy trail. This tyre is designed for heavier riders and is not recommended for use on lighter bikes. The tire holds its own in the long distance touring market and most report they will last for 10 000 kilometers to 15 000 kilometers. Further testing will be necessary. Check current prices here!

What Is The Continental Travel Contact?

This tyre is designed for the touring cyclist who faces road conditions and weather on a daily basis. This tyre is designed to be ridden over most surfaces and it will hold its own on most terrains.

Design Features Include:

  • A super soft rubber compound.
  • Tread pattern designed to have a soft ride.
  • Foldable version.
  • Adjustable colouring.
  • Reacts well at speed.
  • Helps extend mileage.
  • Maintenance free.

Cyclists have said that the rubber compound is suitable for hardened riding or men that ride long distances. This tyre is designed to be ridden on all terrain and will give an excellent smooth ride in most circumstances.

However a rider should not expect this tyre to perform well on a hard and smooth surface when trying to ride at speed. One should also take note that rider weight should be monitored when riding this tyre.

This tyre is well suited for more casual cyclists, people who want to back country trail ride, or take a trip on a coaster ride. If you want a long distance tyre which can handle speed and endurance this is the one for you.

How Is The Continental Travel Contact Fitted To The Wheel?

The Continental Travel Contact is an easy tyre to fit and can be fitted to the wheel with minimal tools.

The tyre is fastened through a quick bead system. The tyre is released onto the wheel through the chunky valves that are placed under the wheel.

When the valves are released the chambers are inflated and the bead is slipped under the edge of the wheel. The tyre should be able to slip onto the wheel with minimal effort.

Cyclists do not need to use a tyre lever as a reliable grip on the bead will enable firm puncture resistance on most surfaces. The folded version has a fold in the sidewall to help facilitate the easy storage as a take along spare or at home in a hidden cupboard.

This tyre has an alloy side wall that is heat resistant and should be able to withstand most weather conditions.

What Type Of Ride Will You Experience With The Continental Travel Contact?

This tyre reacts quickly as it absorbs most of the bumps and shock that a cyclist encounters during a ride. This is because of its extremely soft rubber compound.

The ride is smooth and fast over most terrains. The tread pattern allows the tyre to adapt to the ground it is being ridden over without being forced to produce too much energy.

The tyre is soft enough to remain supple at the edge of the tyre and this allows it not to lose traction on a curve or around a bend. The tread at the edge of the tyre is also designed to protect the cyclist from cuts and abrasions.

This is a high mileage tyre and is ideal for the long distance cyclist. Cyclists have reported that this tyre performed well on fast spins, like a quick trip to the grocery store and downhill rides on off road pathways.

The rubber compound has been designed to absorb a lot of the shock found on uneven terrains without slowing the cyclist down. This can be achieved when the rubber is heat treated.

How To Look After Your Continental Travel Contact?

Cyclists have said that this tyre performs well even after months of heavy use and that one should not have to do much in order to get the best performance out of this tyre.

I have however noticed that some cyclists have had flat repair work done on this tyre as they have encountered punctures where they have been riding. This might be due to not enough air pressure in the tubeless design.

I would recommend that the cyclist pump extra air into the tyre if the cyclist is riding in a very soft terrain. Otherwise riding on a hard and smooth surface can also be very hard on the tyre as it will require more energy.

The Continental Travel Contact has been designed to be ridden in most weather conditions for long periods of time and has been very well designed to respond to these conditions.

Continental Travel Contact Conclusion For The Road:

The Continental Travel Contact has proven to be a very reliable tyre and is perfect for the cyclist who has to ride on varying terrains. Cyclists tend to find this tyre very reliable and have said that the tyre has easily out lasted other brands they have used and the ride is perfect for most weather conditions.

However I have noticed that some cyclists have recommended this tyre for heavier cyclists or lighter children. The tyre wears extremely well on long distance travels and offers excellent puncture resistence as well!

Continental travel contact is designed for a soft ride and is able to be set up on either a 26 or 27.5 inch wheel.

This tyre is also well suited for a commutors’ daily ride and it is an excellent tyre for a tourists accessories.

The Continental Travel Contact is a worthwhile tyre to purchase for the cyclist that enjoys cycling on trails or on a regular fast paced commute. I would not purchase this tyre as a take along spare or for a racing tyre, but it is a good choice for a touring tyre for both off road surfaces and smooth surfaces.
