Modern day Continental Tyre specification, which to a Westerner sounds like a “meatball”. However Continental’s SuperSport Plus is perhaps the best tyre out there. In fact I have ridden over 500 miles on one tyre and it still looks the same as when I bought it – no punctures, moisture or anything similar to run down any. The Continental Supersport Plus is a sensational tyre especially at such a cheap price. If you consider all the statistics at this price point – this is the tyre that will ring true.

Recently I decided to go back to riding my Aldi gear used bike and the idea of riding on road tyres fell by the wayside.

So I decided to buy myself a new set of rim brakes instead of going back to my old brakes and I opted for the new Continental Super Sports.

I have to say, this tyre has been a revelation, I’m on my first six month season now and I am not even close to being worn out on this tyre. It isn’t the grip that I was expecting from the rim brakes that is to say, I am not a huge wheelie wheelie pilgrim, but when you are going at speed on a fast moving road on a decent tyre this evens things out.

So I decided to do my usual ‘criticise a tyre’ routine:

Fitment / Fitting

I bought the sidewall I normally buy and not the new tyre and I did not fit the tyre, but was told from Continental how to do it, so I just went to the factory shop and bought the tyre.

I was told to only use a good quality old cobb link and to never drive lever through tyre, so I put the tyre in the road bike which isn’t ideal but I can work around this as I am in Bridgend.

The first test ride revealed a very good feel and I love it now and every tyre I have ridden after this in the last few months has been revolutionary in the sense that I have not experienced the instant break down on a tyre.

Comfort

The comfort is fantastic from a comfort point of view. haven’t had a puncture since my last six month season and have not had any problems with wear or stickiness. I am putting on about 20 pounds in one month and nothing is getting too heavy but I know that with time my weight will take its toll on the wear, so I am happy that I can go on my best rides with comfort.

Durability

The durability has been very good for me. i put plenty of miles on this tyre and nothing has happened to it yet. I ride from the centre of Bridgend all the way to Swansea and if something happens to me, no worries it is all very reliable. The tyre has not suffered a puncture and this is crucial in the long run. In fact I feel that the longevity is what makes me feel this tyre is going to be a long lasting tyre. After riding with my old Continental Plus Plus Breakers for three years i thought they were going to last forever. Its going to be well worth the extra money to buy this tyre.

Also, if you are going to buy this tyre for the handling feel you will not be disappointed, I have ridden many a £10 tyre for this feel, they all feel like a race tyre and this one right now feels as good as any £10 tyre. The handling is very good.

Price

I had been looking at this tyre for six months and bagged the 12,32 which has dropped twice in price with both tyres being £ 12.76. If you want to spend less this tyre could be your best bet.

Flawless road riding

I have been riding on this tyre for about 5 months now and have no issues whatsoever in road riding and this is a big benefit of the Continental tyres. I haven’t had any issues with the road conditions, i have got up hills and chair rides and not had problems.
