Cateye Strada Wireless Review:

While it may look like a lot of cycling computers this is a great piece of kit. I’ve been using the Cateye Strada Wireless 8 Function Computer for roughly a month on my daily work commute. I ride a lot of hilly terrain and the computer allows me to really hone in on my average speeds as well as my top speeds.

The computer is very easy to install, and I was on the road within minutes. At first the computer was a little confusing to figure out, and I thought I had broken the computer because I didn’t place the transmitter in the proper slot. Just make sure you place both items (computer and transmitter) in the position that is outlined for you, and all will be good.

The computer is very easy to operate, and operating an app on the screen is simple as well. I’m no techy, but I found it easy to count the rotations to set the computer.

The computer not only gives you your current speed, but your average speed, which is great for training purposes. The computer fits securely on your handlebars, and you don’t have to worry about it falling off. The computer’s battery life is great, and they are inexpensive if you do need to replace them. (About $2)

Not only does this computer tell you your speed, but it shows the time of day, your trip distance, and elapsed time as well. I stack this computer up against much more expensive (or more technical) bicycle computers, and it performs well.

The computer’s set-up is fairly easy, and read-out is exact. I would recommend this computer for anyone looking to track their speed and distance in a simple manner. The Strada Wireless Bicycle Computer is priced fairly, and will not break the bank.

We deeply dive into the review of this computer. We go over our experience with the computer, and its good and bad points. Cateye products are always quality products, and this is no different.

Cateye Strada Wireless Review

The Strada Wireless is Cateye’s standard entry level wireless bike computer. It is a wireless cycle computer that is easy to set up and can track several different bike functions including time, distance, speed and calories burned.

The key features on the Cateye Strada Wireless are:

  • LCD display
  • Wireless speed sensor
  • Up to 70cm long range
  • 5 functions including speed, average speed, maximum speed, trip distance and elapsed time

When I first opened the box and saw the Cateye Strada Wireless I was quite impressed with the build quality of the product. The unit itself is made of high quality plastic and all of the buttons feel nice to the touch.

Using the device is a breeze. You simply attach the wireless transmitter to your spokes and then clamp the main unit on to the stem of your bike and turn on the power. The unit is on and can be used within seconds of powering up.

I have to admit that when I first used this computer I did find it a little confusing at first. The instructions that come with the device are very brief and have a terrible translation from the original instructions in Chinese. The instructions only cover how to set up the device and nothing else. To actually use the device to track me bike rides I had to look at the diagram on the back of the unit on how to press the buttons.

The Strada Wireless comes with both a fork mount and a stem mount which makes it easy to mount to either a road bike or a mountain bike. Although this is marketed as a wireless bike computer it does come with a wire from the main unit that needs to be connected to your bike’s handlebars. The wire itself is quite thin and it is only in contact with your handlebars via a very rubbery piece of silicone side piece. This means that there are no moving parts or a lot of room for the wire to get damaged.

The Cateye Strada is a basic bike computer designed to be used by anyone, however it does have 5 functions including:

The screen is quite simplistic and you just need to keep your eyes on the current speed which is displayed in the middle of the screen. The screen is quite small at 4cm across but the characters are large enough that you can still read them clearly. If you use glasses you won’t have any problems.

The screen is laid out in a way that it is easy to see all of the information at a glance while you cycle along. The speed is displayed in large easy to read numbers which I have found is not the case on some of the other wireless bike computers I have used in the past.

The basic functions of the Cateye Strada Wireless are easily visible on the backlit LCD screen. These include the speed functions as well as a distance cycled meter. This gives the rider an indication of where he/she is as far as their route is concerned.

The Strada Wireless comes with a sensor for the wheel of your bike. The units is easily attached by simply pushing the sensor on to your wheel and then tightening with the tool provided. The sensor is waterproof and so can be used on a road bike or a mountain bike.

The Cateye Strada Wireless is powered by one CR2032 3 volt lithium battery. This is a common battery for other devices such as talking books for the blind. The battery is also a common size so if you do need to replace the battery you can easily find a replacement in a shop.

Cateye Strada Wireless Review: Final Words

The Cateye Strada Wireless Bicycle Computer is a great basic cycle computer that is really easy to use. It is easy to set up, light to carry and the display is easy to read even when riding in the sun. I would recommend the Cateye Strada wireless computer to anyone looking for an affordable LCD cycle computer.

The Cateye Strada Wireless is the best value wireless cycling computer in Cateye’s range of wired and wireless computers. The affordable price does not mean Cateye has skimped on quality or functionality. A wireless receiver is included, making this unit easily portable. The Strada Wireless computer is a fast wireless cycling computer with 2 transmission speeds. This computer features an easy to read LCD display with programmable odometer and 5 cycling computer functions. The Cateye Strada Wireless computer is also lightweight, compact and water-resistant.
