In what can only be described as the most intense downhill final we can remember, both Elite titles were on the line in Snowshoe for the final round of the UCI MTB World Cup 2019. With a new venue and a new track that would give Red Bull Hardline a run for its money, athletes laid it all out there between the tapes.
Throughout the 2019 season, the Elite Women’s field was rocked by illness, injury and setbacks as Myriam Nicole, Tahnée Seagrave and Rachel Atherton all missed rounds due to injury which made room for some new faces to rise up through the ranks to showcase their talents. This season we saw French rider, Marine Cabirou, take her first World Cup win in Val Di Sole, which she followed by with another win in Lenzerheide and this final round in Snowshoe. The pocket-rocket, Tracey Hannah, had her best season yet with multiple wins and podiums which ultimately secured her the UCI MTB World Cup overall win.
For Elite Men, the season was dominated by the Frenchies, Loic Bruni and Amaury Pierron, but with ever the bridesmaid, Troy Brosnan, nipping at their heels, it was anyone’s race. However, we did see British rider, Laurie Greenland take his first World cup win in Val Di Sole with a spectacular run on one of the circuits most challenging courses. After some time out with injury, Aaron Gwin returned to race the World Champs in MSA and the final World Cup round on home soil. Despite steady results throughout the year for Danny Hart, he had yet to secure a win all season. In Snowshoe, a track that plays to Danny’s advantages, not only did he qualify first, but he won the round in a nail-biting finish, giving Loic Bruni the space he needed to scoop up his first UCI MTB World Cup overall win.
