As mentioned above the Tektro R539 brakes will work fine with disc brake calipers and rotors as well as rim brake calipers and rotors.
The brake sets come with two pair of brake pads, normal and sintered. Both are supplied with instructions on how to fit, and, if need be with a 6mm allen key to tighten the levers.
There is hardly any marred finish on the metal parts, though the plastic brake arms could have done with a better finish. The brake pads are finished well and do not have any sign of faulty manufacturing.
The Tektro R539 brake set comes fairly well packaged in a white box, which is inside another box, which you can use for keeping the brakes when not in use.
There is a leaflet included which explains how to fit the brake set. And in my case it was really simple to fit. It is a case of tighten the bolts on the brake arms with the supplied allen key and fit the brake pads to the arms. The Tektro R539 brakes have a dual pivot brake calipers which helps spread the brake forces over a greater area. This braking system is better than a single pivot design, and some not so good designs. However, like all rim brake calipers, the Tektro R539 brake set still have some flex. To tension the cables, you will need to measure the freeplay and then adjust the freeplay.
In addition to this the Tektro R539 brake set can be used with a cyclo shift system.
Weight – Normally I would agree with Tektro on the weight being quite reasonable at 160g per wheel. However, on a long term test, I found that the brakes can heat up a bit. This means they are not as good as the more expensive brakes that have a larger Aluminum/Carbon construction and four pot callipers.
The Tektro R539 brakes can easily be serviced once you have worked out how to take them apart. Again, if you have never taken brakes off a frame before then it is better to take them to a bike shop to do it.
In conclusion, the Tektro R539 brakes are a good product which will do the job and are good value for money. If you only use your bike for commuting/race then it is a good choice, but if you use your bike for off-road or cyclo cross riding, I’d spend the extra on a slightly more expensive brake set.

This makes no sense at all. Dual pivot work better than single pivot by putting the pivot point closer to the pad, so there is less flex. Quite simple really.
