Three, two, one… Go for gold. File luging under extreme sports we didn’t know we loved. Watch as 19-year-old Niklas Zehner reaches speeds of over 70 miles per hour on the small, one-person sled in a time-trial race. Luger’s begin seated feet-first, propelling themselves from handles on either side of the start ramp, then steer by using their calf muscles to flex the sled’s runners, or by exerting opposite shoulder pressure to the pod. Watch as the athlete takes a ride on the Oberhof bobsleigh, luge, + skeleton track—a venue used for qualifying for all 3 Olympic sports, located in Germany.
