The ’25 FWT is back underway for the second stop of the season at France’s Val Thorens. The world’s best snow athletes will take on the breathtaking Lac Noir face for the very first time in Freeride World Tour competition. Constant snowfalls over the past week have blanketed the mountain in deep powder, setting the stage for an explosion of turns, incredible jumps, and soft landings that will undoubtedly elevate the riders’ performances.
About the Venue:
Known for its technical and playful terrain, Lac Noir is set to challenge the world’s top skiers + snowboarders in an event that promises thrilling performances. Standing tall with a summit altitude of 8,200ft (2,500m) + a finish line at 6,594ft (2,010m), it is one of the season’s most exciting + technical venues. This dreamy face is a haven for the stacked ski + snowboard field, boasting an average steepness of 37°, + a maximum pitch of 43°.
The venue begins from a wide ridge, offering a playground of possibilities. With its natural terrain movements, big rock features, + a ridge with countless line options, Lac Noir is a canvas for creativity. Divided into three distinct stages, the venue provides a mix of challenges + opportunities that will test the riders’ skills + orientation. Rollovers and terrain transitions create moments of difficulty, requiring precise navigation + control. Starting with an immediate jump off the ridge, competitors will have to bring their A-game from the very first moment.
